Rocky the English Bulldog - WIU's four legged mascot

Western Illinois University - Quad Cities campus is located on the beautiful riverfront in Moline, Illinois. Rocky, the English Bulldog, is the university's mascot and made his first appearance in 1959. Eight years ago Colonel Rock III "Rocky" was born and two months later became the third live mascot for WIU.

“Once a Leatherneck, always a Leatherneck.”

Rocky was named in honor of Ray "Rock" Hanson, a former coach and athletic director for WIU. Hanson was responsible for bringing the Leatherneck and Marine traditions to Western Illinois. Both the live and two legged Rocky mascots make appearances at WIU athletic events, community engagements and a number of other activities taking place at the Macomb and QC campus.

Waterfront Walking

WIU's waterfront campus is a beautiful place to take your dogs for a walk. The spacious concourse shows off the unique architecture of the campus and showcases unique landscaping in the warmer months.

Right across the street from campus is Ben Butterworth Parkway, and Riverside Park is just down the road. This area is perfect for those looking to change up their regular walking route or for alumni who want to share their alma mater with their four legged family members.
