"My dogs are the reason I wake up every morning... really freaking early, every single morning..."

You could say that my husband is NOT a morning person. After the third morning of Molly waking up at 5am to throw up ON our bed, within 48 hours the dog bunk bed was built and ready to sleep in.
Dog Friendly Design
“Dog beds not only need to be functional, but fit the space physically and decoratively.”
This design worked best for our bedroom, as it did not include stairs like you see with most bunk beds. Stairs would take up more space than we had available. The height of the top bunk was the same height of our bed (approximately 36") making it simple for Molly to jump up and climb into her spot, while Jasmine hunkered down below.
This bed is made out of luan and two by fours, and without 45 pounds of dog in it, the bed is fairly lightweight and simple to move. Each bed depth and width is approximately 30" x 26". I used standard bed pillows and covered them with matching blankets for each mattress. I find these are easiest to wash however you could use a stuffed dog bed to place inside. There is a four inch lip on the top bunk to keep Molly from rolling off and a decorative trim added for aesthetics.
Curtains were hung with a dowel rod and a tap light to keep the monsters away. Add a mahogany stain and voila! Molly now has her own bed to throw up in...
